Understanding the importance of continuous progress, Arctur has its own R&D department, registered with the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS). Arctur is involved in joint R&D projects with research institutes, universities and other R&D organizations from EU and globally.
Main topics of our R&D activities of course pertain to advanced HPC and Cloud computing and underlying XaaS paradigm; our work represents horizontal layer for a wide variety of vertical scientific and technological fields. We were pioneers in adapting HPC services to the needs of small and media enterprises (SME) and are still among trend setters in this specific area.
In recent years Arctur is also active in the field of mobile solutions, interlacing them with web and Cloud platforms. Company has also entered the fast developing field of 3D printing, both in data acquisition and 3D modelling, supported with remote rendering and parallel computations in a dedicated Cloud-based ecosystem. Endeavours related to 3D technologies are often pertinent to the field of cultural heritage.
Arctur has contributed to a number of non-ICT projects, spanning from various societal issues to cultural heritage, providing both technical expertise in development and support of specific tools, as well as understanding of technology related issues to enhance theoretical work in shaping strategies and roadmaps for future research and sustainability models.
We don’t want to follow the changes, we want to co-create them. Since more than 25 years Arctur’s Research and Innovation department has been serving as crossroad of creativity, failing and learning from mistakes, to live the interdisciplinary spirit by merging the most different worlds of science, art and business into one innovative energy. With this energy we want to transform the perception of tourism and business around it.
Tourism 4.0 is a name for the current trend of big data processing collected from a vast amount of travellers, to create personalized traveling experience. It is based on variety of modern high-tech computer technologies. Term originates from new paradigm in industry, known as Industry 4.0.
SESAME Net(H2020, EINFRA-6-2014): the aim of the project is to create an open and inclusive European network of Competence Centres and Organizations joining forces in order to raise SMEs’ awareness on HPC and to demonstrate its features and benefits.
Fortissimo2 (H2020, FoF-9-2015): the principal objective of the project is to drive the uptake of advanced modelling, simulation and data analytics services by European engineering and manufacturing SMEs, hence delivering for the companies: improved design processes, better products and services, and improved competitiveness.
NEXTGenIO (H2020, FETHPC≠2014): the project explores the use of non-volatile memory technologies and associated systemware developments through a co-design process with three end-user partners: a high-end academic HPC service provider, a global numerical weather centre and a commercial on-demand HPC service provider.
CAxMan (H2020, FoF-8-2015): the objectives of Computer Aided Technologies for Additive Manufacturing (CAxMan) are to establish Cloud based Toolboxes, Workflows and a One Stop-Shop for CAx-technologies supporting the design, simulation and process planning for Additive Manufacturing.
IoStack (H2020-ICT-2014-1): the main objective of the project is to create a Software Defined Storage toolkit for Big Data on top of the OpenStack platform.
Fortissimo (FP7-2013-NMP-ICT-FoF): Fortissimo is a collaborative project that aims to enable European SMEs to be more competitive globally through the use of simulation services running on a CloudHPC infrastructure.
CloudFlow (FP7, FoF-ICT-2013.7.1): CF enabled the remote use of computational services distributed on the cloud, seamlessly integrating these within established engineering design workflows and standards.
Civic Epistemologies (FP7-INFRASTRUCTURES-2013-2): Civic Epistemologies developed and validated a Roadmap for e-Infrastructures development to support the participation of Europe’s citizens in scientific research, focusing on Digital Cultural Heritage and digital Humanities.
ICON(Italy-Slovenia Crossborder program): the network of ICT enterprises from Slovenia and Italy was created – Mr. Tomi Ilijaš is the president of board of this European cluster (www.hpc5.eu)
NU.SIM.O (National Research & Infrastructures Scheme, 2009 - 2011): Project included development of market-oriented application for numeric simulations in composite materials industry, including setting up of a HPC infrastructure.
MOBOFF (National programme: e-Services and Mobile Applications for NGOs 2012 - 2013) Arctur's role was to develop the cross platform mobile application, consisting of background engine for automatic generation of mobile contents, and front-end mobile application for access to region specific tourist information. The app is platform independent, and is functional both in online and offline modes.
RAZVOJNO RAZISKOVALNI PROJEKTI (SLO)
